In response to Sen. Ali Ndume’s removal as Chief Whip of the Senate, former APC National Vice Chairman Salihu Moh Lukman has sharply criticized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the APC leadership. Lukman asserted that Tinubu has departed from his democratic, progressive, and Awoist principles.
Lukman highlighted that Ndume’s replacement by Sen. Tahir Monguno, as directed in a letter from APC leaders Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and Sen. Basiru Ajibola, exposes internal party governance issues. He accused a small group within APC leadership of sidelining party organs and undermining fair decision-making processes.
He further lamented that under Tinubu’s presidency, there has been a concerning shift in governance style, alleging insularity and inaccessibility contrary to Tinubu’s established political persona. Lukman criticized recent decisions and reversals by Tinubu, questioning their alignment with APC’s founding progressive principles and Awoist ideals.
Highlighting the removal of Ndume without consultation with APC’s National Working Committee or Senate Caucus, Lukman warned of detrimental impacts on the National Assembly’s independence and APC’s internal cohesion.
In conclusion, Lukman urged a return to the inclusive, visionary leadership he associated with Tinubu’s earlier political career, emphasizing the need to uphold democratic values within the party and the nation.
