In a dramatic turn of events at Kwali market in the Kwali Area Council of the FCT, a 36-year-old man, identified as Jamilu, was struck by a car while trying to flee with a woman’s foodstuffs on Tuesday.
Eyewitnesses revealed that the incident occurred around 11 am when the suspect purportedly offered to help Mrs. Patience Raphael transport her purchased food items, including rice, beans, garri, yam, among others, from the market to the roadside to catch a vehicle.
According to Ibrahim Audu, a witness to the event, Mrs. Raphael had completed her shopping and was seeking assistance from a truck pusher to carry her goods. However, the suspect intervened, apparently offering to lend a hand. As he hastily attempted to cross the road with the stolen goods, he was struck by a passing vehicle.
Audu recounted, “I was actually the one attempting to summon a wheelbarrow pusher to assist the woman with the load when the man stepped in to help. Unfortunately, as he rushed across the road to abscond with the goods, he was hit.”
The suspect sustained injuries, including bruises and a fracture, and was promptly taken to the hospital by local vigilantes.
This incident echoes a similar occurrence reported by City & Crime last week, where another individual absconded with a woman’s bag of rice and other food items from the same market.
