The Lagos State Police Command has launched a manhunt for Ganiyu Ibrahim, who is accused of fatally stabbing his cousin, Afeez Akeem, during a heated argument. The tragic incident occurred on October 14, 2024, in Lagos.
According to the Lagos State Police spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the altercation escalated into a physical confrontation, during which Ibrahim reportedly broke a bottle and stabbed Akeem in the chest. Despite being rushed to the hospital, Akeem was pronounced dead by doctors.
In a statement, Hundeyin said: “A complainant reported that her son, Ganiyu Ibrahim, and her nephew, Afeez Akeem, had a misunderstanding that led to a fight. Ganiyu broke a bottle and stabbed Afeez on the left side of his chest. Unfortunately, the victim was confirmed dead at the hospital.”
The family of the deceased has opted for an immediate burial in accordance with Islamic rites, declining an autopsy. Meanwhile, detectives have been mobilized to the scene, and efforts are underway to apprehend Ibrahim, who fled immediately after the incident. Investigations are ongoing.
