A 32-year-old businessman, Raphael Moses, has been remanded in a correction center by an Upper Customary Court in Kafanchan, Kaduna State, for allegedly defiling an eight-year-old girl.
The judge, Mr. Michael Bawa, did not take Moses’s plea and ordered that the case file be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for advice.
The case was adjourned until May 19 for DPP advice.
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corp (NSCDC) charged the defendant with defilement.
According to NSCDC Prosecutor Mr. Marcus Audu, the girl’s mother, Catherine Denis, reported the case at the Corp’s office in Kafanchan on April 22.
Audu explained that Moses lured the girl to his room and defiled her. He added that Moses was caught by some neighbors, who then took the complainant to the Salama Sexual Assault Referral Centre.
The offense contravenes the provisions of Section 259 of the Kaduna State Penal Code Law.
