Argentina’s goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez, renowned for his World Cup heroics in Qatar, showcased his penalty-saving prowess once again, propelling his team to a 4-2 shoot-out victory against Ecuador in the Copa America quarter-finals on Thursday.
Known affectionately as ‘El Dibu’ by fans, Martinez made two spectacular diving saves in the shoot-out after the game ended 1-1 in regular time, as the Copa America rules dictate no extra time until the final. Despite Lionel Messi’s opening penalty hitting the bar, Martinez’s brilliance turned the tide in Argentina’s favor.
