Mongolian schools to begin summer vacation earlier due to COVID-19 surge

Mongolia Ministry of Education and Science announced Thursday that general educational schools and kindergartens would begin summer vacation earlier than usual due to  COVID-19 surge.

Kindergarten and primary school students would be on summer vacation beginning Monday, while secondary and high school students would take their vacation from Friday 14.

The ministry in a statement noted that the start of the new 2021-2022 academic year has been moved forward to mid-August accordingly.

Typically, summer vacation for all general educational schools and kindergartens in the country begins in May or early June and lasts until the end of August.

TV or online classes had been offered to students of all levels across Mongolia since the country confirmed its first locally transmitted COVID-19 case in November 2020.

As of Thursday, Mongolia has registered 42,464 COVID-19 cases, among which over 33,600 were detected since April this year.
