The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has appealed to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, the main opposition candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, to extend his congratulations to President Bola Tinubu, the declared winner of the presidential election by the Supreme Court.

In a statement released on Friday, Prof. Ishaq Akintola, the Executive Director of MURIC, urged Atiku to demonstrate Islamic brotherhood and political maturity by acknowledging the victor.

Akintola emphasized that the legal proceedings have concluded with the Supreme Court’s final verdict, signifying the end of the political contest.

The Supreme Court, through Justice Inyang John Okoro, confirmed Tinubu’s victory in the February 25 presidential election.

In response to the verdict, Akintola, an Islamic scholar, emphasized the common Islamic faith shared by Tinubu and Atiku, suggesting that both Muslim politicians should unite in the interest of nation-building.

He stated, “But we have a country to build, and the time to do it is now. Both of you are Muslims, and that is important to MURIC. First and foremost, you were both Muslims before becoming politicians. You must now join hands to heal wounds, to build bridges, and to allay fears.”
