Committee Chairperson Binta Garba Masi Decries attack On Her Entourage in Mubi

The Senate Committee on Tertiary Education, which investigated alleged diversion of N200 billion claimed to have been lodged into the accounts of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund, TETfund between 2012 and 2013, is compiling its reports in which it may have given the management of the fund a clean bill of health.
A member of the committee headed by Senator Binta Garba Masi of Adamawa North senatorial district confided in our correspondent that they were convinced with the submissions of the management team lead my Professor Suleiman Bogoro, that the petitioners were engaged in a wild goose chase, failing to prove a single case against the fund,.
As the committee got set to present its report to the senate, after concluding its assignment, our source which prefers anonymity said TETfund’s defences were solid and their arguments were superior to the allegations leveled, stressing that, they have verified the records to the effect that no such money was ever remitted to the accounts of TETfund, and that the current management came in long after the actions complained about had taken place, if there were any such actions.
The committee was thoroughly embarrassed when confronted with TETfund’s position, our correspondent learnt, as even the Senator who tabled the petition on the flor of the red chamber last December could not substantiate his claims against TETfund, when requested to do so, after the management of the fund made their presentation.
Meanwhile, Senator Binta Garba has lamented the hostile attitude of youths on her entourage in Mubi town, where she had gone to pay homage on the emir and launch her empowerment programme for the people of the area which formed part of her constituency, forcing her to abort the programme.
Our correspondent reports that senator Garba had to abandon her mission in Mubi and proceeded to Michika after seeing the emir briefly. This was after she was alleged to have been denied access to the Mubi Government lodge by the leadership of Mubi North Local Government Council.
Speaking on the development to newsmen in Yola, Senator Garba described the incident as unfortunate, saying, she has drawn the attention of the appropriate authorities and the matter was being investigated;”what happened in Mubi is rather unfortunate. Investigation is still going on; I wouldn’t want to hold anybody responsible. When the security agents finish their findings, the culprits will definitely be brought to book,”.

Investigations by Nigerian Concord Newspaper reveal that the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers Council, Mr. Pius Akutah, has allegedly misappropriated public funds for a lavish lifestyle.

According to our findings, within months of assuming office, Akutah allegedly purchased a bulletproof SUV valued at approximately N850 million. In addition, he is reported to have acquired over twenty exotic SUVs for use as a convoy.

Akutah is also said to have acquired multiple high-value properties, including three in Abuja’s Maitama and Asokoro districts worth over N2 billion, and two in Lagos’ Banana Island valued at N1.8 billion. These acquisitions appear far beyond the scope of his official salary and allowances.

Further investigation suggests that Akutah may be using public funds to support political ambitions, including allegedly grooming militants across 23 local government areas in Benue State for a potential 2027 gubernatorial bid.

Staff of the Shippers Council reportedly claim that Akutah frequently accesses the council’s treasury without proper authorization. Some insiders have indicated that a petition will soon be filed with the EFCC, ICPC, and the Presidency to report his alleged misconduct.
