The Police in Yobe have recovered an unexploded military-grade explosive device discovered behind NTA Damaturu along the Potiskum Road.

Zagazola Makama learnt from sources that the suspicious item was sighted at about 6:15 p.m. on June 30, prompting immediate deployment of the Bomb Disposal Unit (BOMPOL) to the scene.

“The team successfully identified the item as an unexploded military ordnance. All safety procedures were strictly adhered to, and the device was technically recovered for onward controlled demolition,” Said police sources.

Preliminary investigation suggests that the ordnance may have been abandoned by scavengers after being exposed at the location.

The sources said that no casualties were recorded, and the area has been secured and placed under active surveillance to ensure public safety.

The Oyo State Police Command has confirmed the detention of a police corporal attached to 4 PMF, over the accidental shooting of a 26-year-old man, Amani Mubarak, during a reported altercation at Abuja Leather Company, Ajetiroad, Komu area of the state.

According to a police sources, the incident occurred on June 29 at about 7:50 a.m., when Cpl Rasaq Mumuni, who was on pin-down duty at the location, was called in to intervene in a dispute involving some individuals.

It was reported that while attempting to settle the dispute, one of the individuals involved allegedly made an attempt to disarm the officer, leading to an accidental discharge which struck the victim on his right buttock.

The victim was immediately rushed to Baptist Medical Centre, Saki, for treatment but was confirmed dead on June 30 at about 7:30 p.m. while receiving medical attention.

Police sources say the officer involved has since been detained, and investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting has commenced.

A deadly clash has erupted in parts of Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State following a major cattle rustling incident that left at least three people feared dead and several others injured.

Zagazola Makama learnt that the incident began in the early hours of Saturday, June 21, when suspected rustlers stormed Gwaraje village in Igabi Local Government Area and stole about 200 cattle. The armed group reportedly moved the animals through neighbouring Kadanya and Anguwan Mairijya villages.

While escaping with the stolen livestock, the attackers allegedly shot and fatally wounded a 35-year-old woman, identified as Rahila Danzaria of Kadanya village.

Tensions escalated further when youths from Anguwan Mairijya, apparently reacting to the situation or acting on suspicion, intercepted two men Musa Husaini, and Muntari Tajo, from Gwaraje village, who were said to be trailing the rustlers. The two were severely beaten and left unconscious.

Community sources revealed that attempts to mediate or obtain information from residents in the affected villages proved difficult, as most locals were unwilling to speak out.

The police sources said it has since invited the village heads of Anguwan Mairijya and Kadanya — Sarkin Anguwan Samaila Gado and Sarkin Kadanya Obi Mairuwa — for questioning. They are currently in custody to aid investigation.

Preliminary interrogation led to the identification of one Samaila Danzaria of Anguwan Mairijya as a suspected key perpetrator. He is currently at large.

Efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspects, recover the rustled cattle, and locate the bodies of any victims who may have died from the attacks.
