NAGGW partners CSOs, media to foster and achieve agency’s objectives
The National Agency for the Great Green Wall, (NAGGW) on Wednesday, pledge to collaborate with civil society organisations, media and other stakeholders in other to build and meet the objectives of the Great Green Wall Initiative.
In a roundtable session organised by the
Integrity Advocacy for Development Initiative (IADI) at the Nigeria Army Resource Centre in Abuja, the agency stated that it is committed to building strong relationships for the actualization of its core mandate.
The Director General of the Agency Dr Yusuf Maina speaking on the theme of the programme “The Importance of Natural resources management in the Economic Development of Nigeria: The role of NAGGW, reiterated the agency’s commitment in ensuring conservation and protection of natural resources with the view of achieving development and eradicating poverty, while salvaging land decline caused by climate change, and poor land management.
He emphasized that Natural resources ate one of the input factors of the production process. Without resources and land, there would be no production and no human existence on a global scale. Also speaking, the covener, Comrade Christopher Ofomhi, Executive Director, IADI stated that the roundtable engagement is geared at endearing a robust cross fertilization of ideas on the conservation and protection of natural resources.
He said: ” The role that the natural resources and endowments of any nation play in the economic growth of the Nation cannot be overemphasized, especially as it helps to purify the air, and balance the ecosystem.”I am sure you will agree with me that the adverse effects of the ozone layer perforation on climate change which has further wrecked dire consequences on global bio-stability is a cause of grave concerns to governments world over, and hence the need for this roundtable today.” Ofomhi added.
The Great Green Wall Programme is a Pan-African Initiative conceived to address land degradation and desertification, to boost food security and support communities to adapt to climate change in the Sahel-Sahara region of Africa.
The basis of the Nigerian component of the Great Green Wall Initiative, is to prevent desertification, land degradation, and mitigating the effects of climate change in the 11 frontline states of Borno, Yobe, Jigawa, Kano, Katsina, Sokoto, Zamfara, Kebbi, Bauchi, Gombe and Adamawa.

Pius Akutah’s Alleged Fraud at Nigerian Shippers Council Uncovered
Investigations by Nigerian Concord Newspaper reveal that the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers Council, Mr. Pius Akutah, has allegedly misappropriated public funds for a lavish lifestyle.
According to our findings, within months of assuming office, Akutah allegedly purchased a bulletproof SUV valued at approximately N850 million. In addition, he is reported to have acquired over twenty exotic SUVs for use as a convoy.
Akutah is also said to have acquired multiple high-value properties, including three in Abuja’s Maitama and Asokoro districts worth over N2 billion, and two in Lagos’ Banana Island valued at N1.8 billion. These acquisitions appear far beyond the scope of his official salary and allowances.
Further investigation suggests that Akutah may be using public funds to support political ambitions, including allegedly grooming militants across 23 local government areas in Benue State for a potential 2027 gubernatorial bid.
Staff of the Shippers Council reportedly claim that Akutah frequently accesses the council’s treasury without proper authorization. Some insiders have indicated that a petition will soon be filed with the EFCC, ICPC, and the Presidency to report his alleged misconduct.
