NDDC Screening: Reps: Task Board Nominees On Integrity

The House of Representatives has tasked all the 17 nominees to the Board and Management of the Niger Delta Development Commission ,NDDC, on Integrity urging them to justify the confidence repost on them by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
All the nominees had appeared before the Ad- hoc committee mandated to conduct the screening exercise yesterday at the National Assembly Complex, Abuja.
In her welcome address, the Chairman House Committee on NDDC Hon Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu explained that NDDC needed visionary leaders with integrity to drive and discharge it’s mandate than ever before in the history of Nigeria.
She also charged the 17 nominees with the task of translating the tangible resources available in the country to impact on the lives of the people and communities in the Niger Delta region.
Chairman of the Committee, said the screening process for confirmation was in fulfilment of the provisions of Section 2 (2)(a) of the NDDC Act, 2000.
Lawmakers ,however asked board chairman, Chiedu Ebie; Managing Director/CEO of the Commission, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku and other members to ‘take a bow and go’.
The Committee, however informed that the board members were enjoying the privilege always extended to former members of the National Assembly appointed into executive positions who are always asked to “take a bow and go.”
Investigations by Nigerian Concord Newspaper reveal that the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers Council, Mr. Pius Akutah, has allegedly misappropriated public funds for a lavish lifestyle.
According to our findings, within months of assuming office, Akutah allegedly purchased a bulletproof SUV valued at approximately N850 million. In addition, he is reported to have acquired over twenty exotic SUVs for use as a convoy.
Akutah is also said to have acquired multiple high-value properties, including three in Abuja’s Maitama and Asokoro districts worth over N2 billion, and two in Lagos’ Banana Island valued at N1.8 billion. These acquisitions appear far beyond the scope of his official salary and allowances.
Further investigation suggests that Akutah may be using public funds to support political ambitions, including allegedly grooming militants across 23 local government areas in Benue State for a potential 2027 gubernatorial bid.
Staff of the Shippers Council reportedly claim that Akutah frequently accesses the council’s treasury without proper authorization. Some insiders have indicated that a petition will soon be filed with the EFCC, ICPC, and the Presidency to report his alleged misconduct.
