The crisis within the Zamfara State chapter of the All Progressive Congress (APC) has intensified with the emergence of a fourth faction led by Aminu Sani Jaji, a member of the House of Representatives representing Birinin Magaji/Kaura Namoda Federal Constituency.
Prior to Jaji’s faction, three other factions existed, led by former Governor Abdulaziz Abubakar Yari, Minister of State for Defence Bello Mohammed Matawalle, and Senator Kabiru Garba Marafa. This development was reported by DAILY POST.
Jaji has established his own secretariat and appointed the state vice chairman as the acting state chairman of the party, asserting that the current state chairman and his executive members are suspended.
Despite the claims from each faction about the legitimacy of their secretariats as the authentic Zamfara State APC headquarters, the situation remains unresolved. Marafa recently addressed journalists in Kaduna State, emphasizing that he has his own faction and secretariat in Zamfara and cannot align with Yari or Matawalle.
Efforts for reconciliation led by Yari have so far been unsuccessful. Shortly after these attempts, Jaji opened his faction’s secretariat opposite the residence of the State Commissioner of Police in Gusau, the state capital.
The escalating factional crisis raises concerns about the APC’s prospects in the upcoming 2027 election. The party previously faced a similar internal conflict in 2019, resulting in the formation of the G8 Group, which ultimately hindered the party’s ability to form the government in Zamfara State.
