Oborevwori urges judges to administer justice with personal integrity
Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State emphasized the importance of personal integrity and a sense of justice for judges across the country. During the swearing-in ceremony of Justice Catherine Ojugbana-Orishedere as President of the Customary Court of Appeal (PCCA) and seven other judges of the state judiciary, Governor Oborevwori urged them to carry out their duties impartially and without any form of greed.
Governor Oborevwori stated that passing judgments alone is not enough; justice must be seen to be served. He highlighted the timeless values of fair hearing, equity, good conscience, common sense, and the proper punishment of the guilty as the foundations of justice. He stressed the need for the judges to maintain a high level of personal probity and act as role models to their subordinates, peers, and professional colleagues. He encouraged them to leave a legacy of courage, integrity, and righteousness.
Governor Oborevwori commended Justice Ojugbana-Orishedere for her appointment as President of the Customary Court of Appeal, noting that her recommendation by the National Judicial Council (NJC) and confirmation by the State House of Assembly demonstrated her capacity, competence, and fitness for the position. He acknowledged her 23 years of service as a testament to her credentials as an esteemed jurist and dedicated public servant.
The ceremony also saw the swearing-in of Aforkeya Obomejero, Okeleke Samuel, Umuko Godwin, Ossai Rita, Adolor Sunny as judges of the state High Court, and Justice Gbakeji Michael and Uraih Patricia as judges of the Customary Court of Appeal.
In response, Justice Ojugbana-Orishedere expressed gratitude on behalf of the judges for being entrusted with their roles in the state judiciary. They assured the governor of their commitment to fulfilling their duties in accordance with the constitution of the country.
Investigations by Nigerian Concord Newspaper reveal that the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers Council, Mr. Pius Akutah, has allegedly misappropriated public funds for a lavish lifestyle.
According to our findings, within months of assuming office, Akutah allegedly purchased a bulletproof SUV valued at approximately N850 million. In addition, he is reported to have acquired over twenty exotic SUVs for use as a convoy.
Akutah is also said to have acquired multiple high-value properties, including three in Abuja’s Maitama and Asokoro districts worth over N2 billion, and two in Lagos’ Banana Island valued at N1.8 billion. These acquisitions appear far beyond the scope of his official salary and allowances.
Further investigation suggests that Akutah may be using public funds to support political ambitions, including allegedly grooming militants across 23 local government areas in Benue State for a potential 2027 gubernatorial bid.
Staff of the Shippers Council reportedly claim that Akutah frequently accesses the council’s treasury without proper authorization. Some insiders have indicated that a petition will soon be filed with the EFCC, ICPC, and the Presidency to report his alleged misconduct.
