Kogi State Governor, Usman Ododo, has expressed gratitude for the decision rendered by the State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, confirming his status as the legitimate Governor of the state.
The Tribunal upheld Ododo’s victory and dismissed the petition filed by Muritala Ajaka of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), thereby affirming the win of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate.
In response to the Tribunal’s verdict, Ododo credited his success to the unwavering support of the people of Kogi State. He reiterated his belief that ultimate power is bestowed by God at any given moment in life, underscoring the Tribunal’s decision as a validation of this belief and a call for heightened commitment to serving the people.
Acknowledging the role of the judiciary in upholding democracy, Ododo praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his efforts in preserving the independence of the judiciary. He emphasized the significance of courts as pillars of hope and justice, vital for sustaining democracy globally.
The Governor extended an olive branch to opposition parties, urging them to join hands in propelling Kogi State’s development and fostering unity among its people.
In the November 11, 2023, governorship election, Ododo emerged victorious with 446,237 votes, while his closest rival, Muritala Ajaka of the SDP, secured 259,052 votes. Despite challenges from Ajaka, Olayinka Braimoh of the Action Alliance (AA), and Abdullahi Yunusa of the People’s Redemption Party (PRP), the Tribunal ultimately upheld Ododo’s election, dismissing their petitions for lack of merit.
