Okey Bakassi Advocates Polygamy as Ideal for Africa

Renowned Nigerian comedian Okey Bakassi has sparked a debate by advocating for polygamy, stating it aligns better with African society than monogamy. Bakassi argued that monogamy is failing, with many couples pretending to be content in their unions.

“Forget all the lip services we pay to polygamy here. I still think polygamy is the best form of marriage for Africa. Monogamy is not working,” he said, questioning societal norms that force individuals to end one relationship to start another.

Adding to the discussion, Nollywood veteran Stephen Alajemba, popularly known as Uwaezuoke, controversially declared it sinful for men to marry fewer than three wives. In an interview with Ugwumba TV, he suggested that having multiple wives ensures safety and reduces risks like spousal conspiracy.

While their remarks have fueled conversation, the cultural and societal implications of their views remain a contentious topic.
