A flooded community in Isheri North, Ifo Local Government Area, Ogun State
A socio-economic group of Ondo indigenes, The Ekimogun Roundtable, has made an urgent plea to the Federal Government and Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, to take immediate action to address the destructive flooding that has plagued Ondo town, claiming lives and damaging property.
In a statement released on Saturday, signed by the group’s Acting Secretary, Christiana Ayodele, the organization emphasized that the flood situation has escalated to emergency levels, endangering lives and livelihoods. The group stressed that this yearly catastrophe has left residents living in fear, as both their homes and means of survival are increasingly threatened.
“The flooding, which started around Ife Road, Saluwa, Sabo, New Town, Itanla, Oke Odunwo, and Orimolade areas of the town, is now engulfing the entire Ondo City,” the statement reads. “It is no longer just a seasonal issue but a crisis that endangers our lives, disrupts education, threatens livelihoods, and leaves lasting scars on our people and the community.”
The group appealed to Federal Government agencies like the Ecological Fund Office and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), alongside state authorities, to swiftly intervene and develop a long-term solution.
The Ekimogun Roundtable also declared its readiness to collaborate with government officials to formulate a comprehensive flood management plan. The statement concluded with a call to action, urging government stakeholders to prioritize the safety and future of Ondo citizens.
