Former Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomole, extended warm congratulations to Senator Monday Okpebholo on his emergence as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state. This gesture comes a month after his purported favored candidate, Dennis Idahosa, lost to Okpebholo in the February 22 APC primary election.
Senator Okpebholo clinched victory with 12,433 votes, overcoming contenders including Idahosa and Dr. Blessing Agbomhere after a previous poll was declared inconclusive. Despite Idahosa’s rejection of the result and subsequent legal action against the party, the APC proceeded with affirming Okpebholo’s candidacy.
Amidst recent developments wherein Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama, initially announced as Okpebholo’s running mate, was replaced with Idahosa, Oshiomhole publicly lauded Okpebholo’s victory and urged him to reconcile differences arising from the primaries.
In an official statement released through his senior aide, Victor Oshioke, Oshiomhole commended Okpebholo’s dedication to APC’s principles and urged him to extend an olive branch to fellow contestants and aggrieved stakeholders. The former governor expressed confidence in Okpebholo’s leadership and highlighted the importance of unity within the party for success in the upcoming governorship election scheduled for September 21, 2024.
Oshiomhole applauded Okpebholo’s choice of Dennis Idahosa as his running mate, emphasizing their joint ticket as the best option to address the aspirations of Edo State’s populace. He underscored his belief in Okpebholo’s capacity to lead the state towards progressive governance, socioeconomic development, and political inclusivity.
In closing, Oshiomhole reiterated his commitment to the collective goal of revitalizing Edo State and pledged his support for Okpebholo’s leadership in achieving this vision.
