PDP governors decry over dependence on oil
… call for alternative IGR

Governors forum under the People’s Democratic Party, PDP have reiterated on the need to have an alternative means to generate Internal Revenue in the states adding that states must begin to look away from oil.
While speaking during the 2019 Annual Internal Generated Revenue summit for PDP governored states in abuja, the group ascertained that states should create an avenue to sustain their states without Federal government allocation.
The forum with the theme ” The Imperatives of Developing IGR Options for State Government in a Recessed Economy” had variety of consultants in attendance.
Speaking during his opening remarks the PDP Governors forum Chairman Governor Seriake Dickson who was represented by Mr Onaiwu Osaro noted that the need for States to create their own IGR cannot be overemphasised adding that taxation is a credible option.
While describing the People’s Democratic party as a party which gives priority to peace over anything,he stated that this has given all PDP states an edge over others in terms of development.
He noted that governors should create enabling environment for investors adding that states prone to violence will never increase its IGR.
Also speaking was the Chairman of the party, Prince Uche Secondus who also called for prudent management of resources.
Chief Secondus who was represented by Mr Mai Basira urged states to diversify their resources of revenue to boost development.
He noted that Nigeria currently has issues with multiple taxation which is becoming a burden hence the need to make taxation transparent inorder to achieve its goal of using tax as another revenue to generate more revenue for the Country.
He however called for all hands to be on deck in checkmating governance and making revenue bases count.
The summit which holds for 2 days has representatives for all the 16 PDP governored states in the country in attendance.
Investigations by Nigerian Concord Newspaper reveal that the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers Council, Mr. Pius Akutah, has allegedly misappropriated public funds for a lavish lifestyle.
According to our findings, within months of assuming office, Akutah allegedly purchased a bulletproof SUV valued at approximately N850 million. In addition, he is reported to have acquired over twenty exotic SUVs for use as a convoy.
Akutah is also said to have acquired multiple high-value properties, including three in Abuja’s Maitama and Asokoro districts worth over N2 billion, and two in Lagos’ Banana Island valued at N1.8 billion. These acquisitions appear far beyond the scope of his official salary and allowances.
Further investigation suggests that Akutah may be using public funds to support political ambitions, including allegedly grooming militants across 23 local government areas in Benue State for a potential 2027 gubernatorial bid.
Staff of the Shippers Council reportedly claim that Akutah frequently accesses the council’s treasury without proper authorization. Some insiders have indicated that a petition will soon be filed with the EFCC, ICPC, and the Presidency to report his alleged misconduct.
