The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has declared its readiness to combat electoral malpractice in the forthcoming governorship elections in Edo and Ondo states, scheduled for September 21 and November 16, respectively.
During the inauguration of the National Campaign Councils for these elections, PDP Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, emphasized the party’s commitment to ensuring a fair electoral process. He asserted that the PDP would not allow anyone to unlawfully seize victory in Edo and Ondo, stating, “We are battle-ready for any thief that rears head to steal our fortune.”
Responding to statements suggesting interference from opposing parties, Damagum highlighted the democratic principles guiding the PDP’s approach, asserting that the party would not tolerate electoral results announced under dubious circumstances. He praised Governor Godwin Obaseki’s administration in Edo State and expressed confidence in retaining the state.
Addressing the challenges in Ondo State, Damagum noted the party’s resolve to overcome historical difficulties, stating, “This time around, we are ready for them,” referring to opposition tactics. He urged party members to stand firm and confront challenges boldly.
The Chairman of the Edo PDP Governorship Campaign Council, Ahmadu Fintiri, alongside Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, represented by Deputy Governor Kola Adewusi, affirmed their readiness to secure victories in both states. They emphasized leveraging Governor Obaseki’s achievements and technological advancements to minimize electoral irregularities.
“We are ready for Edo and, by extension, Ondo. We will not leave anything to chance,” Fintiri declared, underscoring the party’s optimism and strategic preparations for the upcoming elections.
In conclusion, Damagum expressed confidence in the PDP’s prospects, stating, “Edo is already ours. It will remain PDP. Ondo will be for us to take.” He called for unity and steadfastness among party members in achieving electoral success in both states.
