The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has issued a wanted notice for Andrew Wynne, a British national also known as Andrew Povich, and Lucky Obiyan, a Nigerian, over their alleged involvement in a plot to overthrow Nigeria’s democratically elected government. The NPF claims that Wynne and Obiyan are implicated in efforts to destabilize the country and create chaos.
The Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Muyiwa Adejobi, stated that Wynne established a network of sleeper cells to carry out the plot. Wynne is accused of renting space at Labour House in Abuja, where he set up an “Iva Valley Bookshop” and “STARS of Nations Schools” as fronts for his activities. The NPF alleges that Wynne provided financial and operational support to the plotters.
The investigation uncovered that Wynne and his associates received substantial funding from foreign sources to incite violence and disrupt Nigeria’s stability. The funds were reportedly used to organize protests, spread misinformation, and provoke unrest. The suspects face charges under the Terrorism (Prevention) Act 2011, including Criminal Conspiracy, Terrorism Financing, Treasonable Felony, Subversion, and Cybercrime.
Wynne has reportedly fled the country, and both he and Obiyan are now the subjects of an international manhunt. Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun has activated INTERPOL and other global policing networks to aid in their capture. Ten other suspects have been arraigned for their involvement in the plot.
The NPF has urged the public to assist in the investigation by providing any information about the suspects. The police reaffirm their commitment to safeguarding democratic rights while combating threats to national security.
