Reps C’ttee Threatens 6 FG Agencies With Warrant of Arrest

The House of Representatives Committee on Public Accounts, PAC, has threatened to issue warrant of arrest to 6 heads of federal government agencies over their refusal to honor invitation.

The Commitee also directed 2 heads of higher institutions to appear before it within seventy-two hours or be ready to answer query form the Office of the Auditor-General of the Federation.

The Chairman of the House of Representatives Commitee on Public Account, PAC, Hon.Bamidele Salam hands down the warning to absentees government agencies because of their refusal to honour the invitation earlier sent to them by the panelists.

The Federal agencies includes: the Rural Electrification Agency, Nigeria Upstream Regulatory Authority, the Nigeria Satellite Communications Ltd NIGCOMSAT as well as the Nigeria Export Promotion Council.

Others include, the Export Processing Zone Authority as well as the Federal University of Petroleum Resources Effurun, Delta State.

The Chairman of the Committee had informed that the invitation of the heads of the aforementioned agencies was to enable his committee have their input over the ongoing investigative hearing pertaining to audit query on them.

Earlier, the Committee Chairman had informed that out of the six invited agencies, only the Rural Electrification Agency sent letters to the committee pleading for the CEO absence over other engagement.

He further disclosed that the issues at stake by his committee includes misappropriation of certain sum of money.

According to him”we are going to use our constitutional power to ensure that every kobo spent by the MDAs is prudently spent.

“I plead with with my esteemed committee members to give these agencies a second chance to appear”.

Lawmakers who are also members of the committee further expressed displeasure over the attitude of chief executives officers of government agencies on their refusal to honor parliamentary invitations calling for certain action against such establishment.

Consequently, the Committee Chairman Hon.Salam further directed the heads of the six agencies and institution to appear unfailingly before his panel on or before next Thursday being November 2,2023 at 10:00am unfailingly.

Investigations by Nigerian Concord Newspaper reveal that the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers Council, Mr. Pius Akutah, has allegedly misappropriated public funds for a lavish lifestyle.

According to our findings, within months of assuming office, Akutah allegedly purchased a bulletproof SUV valued at approximately N850 million. In addition, he is reported to have acquired over twenty exotic SUVs for use as a convoy.

Akutah is also said to have acquired multiple high-value properties, including three in Abuja’s Maitama and Asokoro districts worth over N2 billion, and two in Lagos’ Banana Island valued at N1.8 billion. These acquisitions appear far beyond the scope of his official salary and allowances.

Further investigation suggests that Akutah may be using public funds to support political ambitions, including allegedly grooming militants across 23 local government areas in Benue State for a potential 2027 gubernatorial bid.

Staff of the Shippers Council reportedly claim that Akutah frequently accesses the council’s treasury without proper authorization. Some insiders have indicated that a petition will soon be filed with the EFCC, ICPC, and the Presidency to report his alleged misconduct.
