The House of Representatives has set legislative mechanism in motion to unravel and probe grievous bribery allegations against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission,EFCC as well as the Nigerian Correctional Service,NCS, formerly known as the Nigerian Prison Services.
This was sequel to a motion of urgent public importance moved during plenary yesterday by Hon Patrick Umoh, a lawmaker representing Ikot Ekpene/Essien Udim/Obot Akara Federal Constituency of Akwa Ibom State in the House of Representatives.
It would be recalled that the social media has been recently saturated with grievous allegations made by an online influencer Martins Otse otherwise call VeryDarkMan who had accused the anti-graft agency of money laundering against a Nigerian popular cross dresser, Idris Okuneye also known as Bobrisky saying that they have received a whooping sum of N15M from him.
In his lead debate, the Hon Umoh used the opportunity to emphasized damaging reputation that may come to the country because of such negative allegation as well as the need for immediate action.
The lawmaker further stressed the need to investigate all circumstances that led to such a widely circulated online publication against the EFCC and the NCS.
According to the lawmaker: The publication alleges that the EFCC dropped money laundering charges against Idris Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky upon collection of the sum of N15,000, 000.
“The publication all alleges that Idris Okuneye, upon conviction for abuse and defacing of the Naira, by the court, did not serve his time at the Nigeria Correctional Service, but was lodged outside the confines of the service.
“We are disturbed about the damning allegations against Nigerian critical law enforcement agencies-the EFCC and the NCS established by this hallowed chambers to fight correction and incarcerate persons convicted of a crime for correctional purposes respectively.”
Meanwhile the lawmaker also used the opportunity to lament negative effect of such online publication adding that it capable of destroying Nigeria as well as portraying her as the most corrupt nation.
