The Police Public Relations Officer of the Lagos State Command, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed late on Thursday, September 28, 2023, that Balogun Olamilekan Eletu, also known as Sam Larry, is now in police custody and is currently cooperating with ongoing investigations. This development is related to the probe into the circumstances surrounding the death of the 27-year-old Afrobeats musician, Mohbad.

The mysterious death of Mohbad on September 12 has prompted a thorough investigation, including the completion of an autopsy after the exhumation of his remains last Thursday. Speculations have linked his reported struggles with depression and other mental health issues to his contentious departure from his former record label, Marlian Records, owned by Naira Marley.

Sam Larry, who is known to be associated with Naira Marley, has come under scrutiny following the emergence of videos that allegedly depict his harassment and mistreatment of Mohbad. These videos have led to suspicions of his involvement in the artist’s death. Additionally, a video circulated on social media in which the late singer suggested that Nigerians should hold his former boss, Naira Marley, responsible if he were to die.

These developments have made both Sam Larry and Naira Marley primary suspects in the ongoing investigations, as calls for justice on behalf of the late singer continue to mount.

While Sam Larry released a video to refute his alleged involvement in Mohbad’s death, stating that the circulating videos are old and should not be used to implicate him, Nigerians have insisted that he present himself to the police to clear his name.

Naira Marley, who has been outside the country since the incident, has pledged to return and surrender himself to the police to assist in the ongoing investigations. However, he has requested that the authorities guarantee his safety before his return.
