Sex for marks Scandal, mothers urged to protect their girl child

By Ere-ebi Imisi
Founder Branzul Ikuli Centre for Social Rehabilitation Dr Mrs Merit Obua, has urged mothers to protect their girl child from sexual violation stressing that it is a divine task.
In a chat with our correspondent, Dr Merit noted that immediately a woman gives birth to a female child, she must be aware that her primary responsibility must evolve around this child while every other duty comes secondary.
Obua who was reacting to the sex for marks scandal disclosed that she was happy that some lecturers have been exposed but majority of Nigeria women are more concerned about making money rather than the welfare of their children especially the underage.
According to Obua, women have been specially built to multi task between their children; their spouse and their job adding that I am a working mother is not an excuse that permits you to neglect the welfare and training of your children.
She stated that some girls have already been molested from home by housemaid at early ages which expose them to sexual pleasures, this children eventually grow up to become a menace to the larger society.
Obua, who is also the wife of the late Chief Security Officer to former President Goodluck Jonathan stressed that the protection of the girl child is a joint task for both parents but mothers play a larger role.
‘‘I have been seeing all over social media the high rate of rape and the current sex for marks scandal, it is disheartening because this has been happening in our society but under a lot of secrecy, it is good that it has been exposed.
‘‘But we must know that this victimization started from the household when mothers began to neglect their roles in the home. This days 60 percent of children are answerable to house helps who directly or indirectly run the home.
‘‘The house helps have more control over the home than the mother of the house, how can an illiterate train your child for you and you expect to have the best.
‘‘From the beginning women have been specially built to multi task I have been in the corridor of power and I know how some women use power especially when they have some level of power available to them. A mother should not be too busy to watch over her daughter’’ she said.
She however added that mothers must begin to educate their girl child at an early age and their protection must remain a priority.

Pius Akutah’s Alleged Fraud at Nigerian Shippers Council Uncovered
Investigations by Nigerian Concord Newspaper reveal that the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers Council, Mr. Pius Akutah, has allegedly misappropriated public funds for a lavish lifestyle.
According to our findings, within months of assuming office, Akutah allegedly purchased a bulletproof SUV valued at approximately N850 million. In addition, he is reported to have acquired over twenty exotic SUVs for use as a convoy.
Akutah is also said to have acquired multiple high-value properties, including three in Abuja’s Maitama and Asokoro districts worth over N2 billion, and two in Lagos’ Banana Island valued at N1.8 billion. These acquisitions appear far beyond the scope of his official salary and allowances.
Further investigation suggests that Akutah may be using public funds to support political ambitions, including allegedly grooming militants across 23 local government areas in Benue State for a potential 2027 gubernatorial bid.
Staff of the Shippers Council reportedly claim that Akutah frequently accesses the council’s treasury without proper authorization. Some insiders have indicated that a petition will soon be filed with the EFCC, ICPC, and the Presidency to report his alleged misconduct.
