By Yahaya WAKILI, Maiduguri
Parents of a Civilian JTF volunteer, Abdulmajid Ahmed, who was killed on duty, has taken the Borno state Government to task, over the manner the deceased family was neglected since the incident which took the young man’s life occurred.
Hajiya Rakiya, Abdulmajid’s mother told nationalTRAIL in Maiduguri that her son was one of the five Civilian JTF volunteers who were blown to death by a suicide bomber around Jiddari Polo, in Maiduguri sometime last month, but neither the Borno state Government which claims to care for the volunteers, nor the high command of the Civilian JTF has condoled the family since then.
“I lost beloved son Abdulmajid in a bomb blast on the 27th December, 2015 by 7:00 pm at Jiddari. My son is a Civilian JTF Sector 5 with I.D No. 710.
My son died in active service by protecting his nation and the people in his unit. Since the inception of civilian JTF my son has been very active he was even appointed as discipline master of his unit, but no officials from Civilian JTF neither the Borno state government has come to condole me’, she lamented.
“It is really surprising as i was thinking that my son was helping his nation that is why i allow him to take part in the work, only Almighty Allah will condole me”, Hajiya Rakiya further said, stressing that the state Government only pays lip services to the issue of welfare of boys involved in this very dangerous duty.
According to her, she is aware that the Government has visited and even compensated other families of JTF personnel who died on active service, but her son’s case was made different because they are not Kanuris.
Abdulmajid was amongst five Civilian JTF volunteers who were lured by a female suicide bomber, who pretended to be sick and needed help, only to detonate an explosive device strapped on her body as they approached to give her helping hands.
All five volunteers were killed, and according to their families, the Government which recruited them has abandoned them to their fates, as there was not even a word of condolence from the governor, Kashim Shettima, as was the case with others.

Investigations by Nigerian Concord Newspaper reveal that the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers Council, Mr. Pius Akutah, has allegedly misappropriated public funds for a lavish lifestyle.

According to our findings, within months of assuming office, Akutah allegedly purchased a bulletproof SUV valued at approximately N850 million. In addition, he is reported to have acquired over twenty exotic SUVs for use as a convoy.

Akutah is also said to have acquired multiple high-value properties, including three in Abuja’s Maitama and Asokoro districts worth over N2 billion, and two in Lagos’ Banana Island valued at N1.8 billion. These acquisitions appear far beyond the scope of his official salary and allowances.

Further investigation suggests that Akutah may be using public funds to support political ambitions, including allegedly grooming militants across 23 local government areas in Benue State for a potential 2027 gubernatorial bid.

Staff of the Shippers Council reportedly claim that Akutah frequently accesses the council’s treasury without proper authorization. Some insiders have indicated that a petition will soon be filed with the EFCC, ICPC, and the Presidency to report his alleged misconduct.
