Teni Warns Persistent Money-Beggars: “Have Conscience!”

By Milcah Tanimu

Afrobeats star Teni has issued a firm warning to individuals who repeatedly solicit money from her, urging them to reconsider their actions and “fear God.” In a recent Instagram post on March 19, 2024, the singer humorously dubbed the frequent beggars as the “Beggars Association” and called out their lack of empathy and consideration.

Addressing the association, Teni exclaimed, “Beggars Association of Nigeria, who leads you? I need to have a word with your leader because it seems you’ve lost all sense of conscience and respect for God.” She expressed her dismay at individuals who persistently request financial assistance without showing any concern for her own well-being.

Teni emphasized the lack of empathy in their appeals, noting that they now even ask for donations in foreign currencies such as USD and pounds, rather than the local currency, the naira. She cautioned them to be mindful, reminding them that even God would advise patience. “I’m not God, we’re all human,” she asserted.

This warning echoes the sentiments expressed by legendary Nollywood actor Chinedu Ikedieze, also known as Aki, in July 2023, when he voiced frustration over the flood of begging messages in his Instagram DMs. He urged individuals to refrain from incessantly requesting money.
