Health Minister Prof. Mohammad Ali Pate has emphasized the federal government’s dedication to transforming Nigeria’s health sector under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu.
Speaking at the first anniversary of the official commissioning of the permanent site of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital (NAUTH) in Nnewi, Anambra State, Pate highlighted the administration’s commitment to improving health infrastructure, state-of-the-art equipment, and quality health services.
“The health sector is undergoing a significant transformation under the Tinubu administration, focused on enhancing the health of every Nigerian,” Pate stated. “Such transformation is evident in the areas of infrastructure, advanced medical equipment, and quality health services aimed at saving lives and preventing diseases.”
He reiterated the administration’s belief that “health is wealth,” emphasizing that good health is essential for productive work, education, and overall engagement in daily activities. Pate assured the hospital staff, university community, and state residents of continued government support to improve the citizens’ health.
Prof. Joseph Ugboaja, Chief Medical Director (CMD) of NAUTH, also spoke at the event, calling for federal assistance to realize the institution’s vision and 10-year strategic development plan. Ugboaja aims to position NAUTH among the top three health facilities in Nigeria by 2030, through a plan anchored on nine pillars.
“While management has completed well over four kilometers of roads, there is a need for more internal roads, security cameras, and solar lights to cover the estate,” Ugboaja said. He also appealed to the Minister of Health to facilitate the approval of a waiver to recruit more staff into the institution.
The event underscored the Tinubu administration’s ongoing efforts to invest heavily in the health sector, in collaboration with all segments of society, to ensure that Nigeria’s health services are both world-class and accessible to all citizens.
