“Victor Osimhen Happy at Napoli, Dismisses Liverpool and Chelsea Links”

By Milcah Tanimu

Victor Osimhen, the Nigerian international, has dismissed speculation linking him to Liverpool and Chelsea in the English Premier League, stating that he is content playing for Napoli in Serie A.

Napoli faced interest from several clubs during the summer transfer window but was reluctant to part with Osimhen, who was their top scorer in Serie A last season with 26 goals.

The interested parties, including Manchester United, Chelsea, and Paris Saint-Germain, moved on to other targets, and Osimhen began the 2023-24 season in Napoli with six goals and one assist in 10 games.

Despite this, the long-term future of the 24-year-old remains uncertain as he enters the final two years of his contract with Napoli. The club is reportedly facing difficulties in contract renewal negotiations with Osimhen’s agents.

Osimhen has also had a turbulent start to the campaign, including a disagreement with manager Rudi Garcia and allegations of a “frosty” relationship with Napoli president Aurelio de Laurentiis. The president suggested he might be willing to sell Osimhen in 2024 if he doesn’t renew his contract.

However, Osimhen expressed his contentment with Napoli in a recent interview and stated that he finds Serie A to be one of the most challenging leagues from tactical and physical perspectives. He also dismissed the possibility of a move to Saudi Arabia, mentioning that he would prefer to play in North America.

Napoli’s sporting director ruled out a January exit for Osimhen, emphasizing the squad’s size and stability.
