2026 WCQ: Bassey, Onyeka, and Others Boost Super Eagles’ Squad to 20

As the Super Eagles ramp up preparations for Friday’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying match against South Africa’s Bafana Bafana, additional players have arrived in Nigeria to join the training sessions at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.

Semi Ajayi, Bright Osayi-Samuel, Calvin Bassey, Frank Onyeka, and forward Paul Onuachu joined the 15 players already present, arriving in Abuja and Lagos yesterday before proceeding to Uyo.

Fifteen players participated in a training session yesterday morning in Uyo. Coach Finidi George emphasized to the squad the importance of securing the three points at stake in Friday’s match.

Midfielder Alex Iwobi, goalkeeper Maduka Okoye, and forward Ademola Lookman are expected to arrive in Nigeria by Tuesday.

According to the team’s schedule, there was no training session on Monday evening. However, intensive training sessions are planned for Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with the team hoping to have all players in camp by then.

The Bafana Bafana delegation is expected to arrive in Nigeria on Wednesday. The team has been booked into the Four Points By Sheraton Hotel in Ikot-Ekpene.
