2027: NNPP Cautions ADC Spokesman, Politicians Against Inciting Public Disorder
By: Fabian Apechihin
The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has strongly criticized recent claims made by Malam Bolaji Abdullahi, interim National Publicity Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), who alleged that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is behind attacks on the opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Abdullahi had accused the Tinubu administration of targeting opposition leaders, particularly in the North East and North West, in a bid to weaken the recently formed coalition poised to challenge the APC in the next elections. The coalition, which adopted the ADC as its platform on July 2, vowed not to allow Nigeria slide into a one-party system.
In response, NNPP’s National Publicity Secretary, Dr. Ogini Olaposi, issued a statement on Wednesday urging political actors to exercise caution in their public remarks to avoid sparking unrest.
“The NNPP takes exception to Abdullahi’s unfounded allegations against the APC and the Federal Government, especially his attempt to drag the NNPP into the matter,” Olaposi said.
“Nigeria is facing serious challenges, and inflammatory statements could easily be misinterpreted by the public. Abdullahi should restrict his commentary to the ADC and refrain from involving other parties, particularly the NNPP.”
Olaposi emphasized that the NNPP had no involvement in the alleged political attacks and questioned why Abdullahi would make such claims without evidence, especially when he is not a member of the NNPP.
Addressing its own internal leadership issues, the NNPP clarified that they were not instigated by the APC or the Presidency but stemmed from actions by Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso and his supporters, whom the party accused of attempting to take control of its structure.
“Kwankwaso’s participation in any coalition does not imply that the NNPP is part of the ADC or any opposition alliance. We are not affiliated with the coalition and it does not speak for us,” the party said.
The NNPP further stated it has no reason to believe that the APC played any role in its internal conflicts.
“Our past internal disputes, like those in other political parties, resulted from a breakdown of trust—specifically by the Kwankwasiya Movement—even after the Memorandum of Understanding for the 2022 presidential election had expired,” the statement noted.
The party also challenged the prevailing use of the term “opposition” in Nigerian politics, describing it as counterproductive.
“We see ourselves as responsible partners to all duly registered political parties in Nigeria. The idea that opposition means complete antagonism to the ruling party is unfortunate and unproductive.”
On President Tinubu’s leadership, the NNPP acknowledged his call for unity and participation in the Renewed Hope Agenda, urging politicians to focus on strengthening their respective parties instead of pursuing internal sabotage or courtroom battles.
“Rather than resolving disputes through internal mechanisms, politicians continue to flood the courts with cases rooted in issues that could be handled internally, under constitutions they wrote for themselves,” the NNPP stated.
In closing, the party warned members of the opposition coalition not to use its name or platform for political posturing.
“The NNPP is a nationally registered political party committed to contesting elections—not to ganging up against fellow political parties. Let no one be deceived into thinking otherwise.”

Political Turmoil in Taraba: Allegations of Tribal and Religious Blackmail Rocks Likely Consensus Candidacy
By Daniel Mtindiga, Jalingo
Mr. Hamidu Bakoji has leveled serious allegations against the likely consensus candidate for the Ardo-Kola, Karim-Lamido, and Lau Federal Constituency, accusing incumbent lawmaker Honorable Mohammad Audu Lauya of exploiting religious and tribal sentiments to manipulate State and party leadership despite alleged incompetence and poor human relations.
Bakoji claims Lauya lacked a solid structure before becoming a Member of the House of Representatives and failed to build one during his three-year stay in the NASS. He warns that re-nominating Lauya would be a mistake, potentially costing the APC the seat. He appointed out that some people close to the leadership are more comfortable with him as a light-weight politician to put off heavyweight like Sani.
The controversy deepens with Bakoji urging the governor to watch and analyze closely the voting patterns come 2027 general elections and observe the tribal and religious voting pattern, predicting the Wurkum-Muslim community may reject the governorship candidate if a Muslim candidate is on the ballot.
“This isn’t democracy,” Bakoji declared, criticizing the imposition of unpopular candidates. Further intrigue surrounds the alleged sidelining of former Acting Governor, Senator Sani Abubakar Danladi, rumored to be eyeing a Senate seat for Taraba North.
Bakoji claims the state and party leadership are using Lauya to block Danladi, a Wurkum Muslim, who is growing desperate. The situation is adding layers of religious and tribal tension to the power struggle.
As tensions rise, observers question whether internal party machinations will backfire, handing victory to opposition forces in the upcoming elections.
