Benue state government has disclosed that it has abolished common entrance examination as basis for admission into Junior Secondary School, JSS1.
Commissioner for Education and Knowledge Management, Dr, Frederick Ikyaan, announced this in Makurdi, after a meeting with stakeholders to intimate them on the new policy in education.
According to Dr, Ikyaan, the move was in line with federal government directive following the introduction of 9-3-4 policy in the national education system, explaining that the new has replaced the 6-3-3-4.
He said the ministry was working out modalities to be adopted by schools for the progression of students from the middle basic formally known as primary six to upper basic one also known as JSS1, where they would be issued certificates with security features upon completion of basic nine formally known as JSS3.
Also speaking Director General, Benue State Education Quality Assurance Agency, BEQA, Dr, Terna Francis, said basic nine certificate with security features under the new arrangement was a requisite for students progression into SS1, disclosing further that henceforth, the Agency is to print all certificate for schools to issue to graduates.
