NAFDAC and NCTC join forces to combat drug and alcohol abuse and prevent chemical misuse

In a collaborative effort, the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) and the National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC) have joined forces to combat the issues of drug abuse, alcoholism, and chemical misuse.

In a statement issued in Abuja on Sunday, the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) announced its collaboration with the National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC) to combat drug abuse, alcoholism, and chemical misuse. The decision was reached during a visit by NAFDAC’s director-general, Mojisola Adeyeye, and the agency’s management team to the NCTC headquarters in Abuja.

The purpose of the visit was to strengthen the existing partnership between the two organizations in terms of regulations. NAFDAC expressed its commitment to working closely with the NCTC to address the challenges posed by drug abuse, chemical misuse, and alcoholism, which have been identified as major contributors to acts of terrorism.

Mojisola Adeyeye highlighted NAFDAC’s adoption of a traceability tool called “track and trace,” which enables the agency to regulate drugs and trace their movement from manufacturers to end users. This tool utilizes global positioning systems to precisely locate drugs, emphasizing the importance of preventing narcotics abuse, as it can lead to extremism, terrorism, and loss of lives and livelihoods.

Yaminu Musa, the coordinator of NCTC, explained that the partnership aims to establish the modalities for collaboration between the two agencies. By implementing this collaboration effectively, they hope to enhance government understanding and deliver more effective measures in addressing these critical issues.
