A 1 million Naira worth Argentine horse breed, meant for presentation to former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Yusuf Buratai by Southern Borno Stakeholders Mysteriously Dies before its formal presentation.
Lt. General Buratai, who was turbaned as the Betara, of Biu last Saturday by the Emir of Biu, Mustapha Umara Mustapha II, was to receive the horse gift from leader of the committee, Honorable Harami Balami after his turbanning.
Things took a dramatic turn when Balami received information that the horse had started manifesting strange behaviours, prompting the invitation of a vertinary doctor, who tried to stablize the animal in vain.
Eyewitnesses told our correspondent that, shortly after the horse was brought in from Ningi, where it was said to have been bought, the animal started behaving funny and refused to eat the local feeds provided for it.
Investigations reveal that, members of a pseudo political forum named Southern Borno stakeholders, had pulled resources together and bought the horse at a whooping one million Naira, with the intention of showing their appreciation to Genetal Buratai for attracting developments to Southern Borno.
But while they made initial arrangements to make the presentation of the horse, with its full regalia at a separate ceremony, General Buratai’s turbaning presented a better opportunity to do so.
The gesture was, however, truncated with the strange death of the horse, which had set tongues wagging as to the actual cause of the death, only when it was set to be presented.
Speaking on the development, the chief presenter and Garkuwa of Biu, Harami Balami, lamented the death of the horse, describing it as strange, shocking and sad.
He said everything went smoothly until the horse developed strange ailments and eventually died.
While commending the move by the stakeholders as well intended, Balami said the sudden death of the horse was a great setback.
