Former President Jonathan Mourns Loss of Elder Sister

Madam Obebhatein Jonathan, the elder sister of former President Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, passed away on Thursday, January 11, 2024, at the Federal Medical Centre in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State. She succumbed to a brief illness at the age of seventy.

Described as a retired teacher, businesswoman, loving mother, and grandmother, Madam Obebhatein Jonathan, affectionately known as Amissi, led a life dedicated to service to God and humanity. A devout Christian, virtuous woman, and a role model to many, her legacy extends beyond her community.

The statement from Jonathan’s media office also announced that the burial is scheduled for Tuesday, February 16, 2024. Details of the funeral rites will be communicated by the family.

Madam Obebhatein Jonathan is survived by three children, siblings, including His Excellency Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, and her mother, Mama Eunice Afeni-Jonathan. The passing of this remarkable woman is a loss deeply felt by her family and the community she served throughout her life.
