KAKA SHEHU LAWAN: The Kid Silk On The Marble

His mesmeric rise to stardom has not only been fast, but it has also been historic and record-breaking.Except for those who have been conversant with his brilliance since his school days, many people thought it was too fast in coming: talking about Senator Kaka Shehu Lawan, SAN: one of Nigeria’s newest silk.As for me and for those who have keenly followed through his school days, his professional calling, and his political manouvres, Kaka Shehu Lawan’s conferment as a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, was the fulfillment of a long awaited and well-deserved recognition.I recall, that, with a near prophetic precise, way back in 2011: when I took particular notice of him among the team of lawyers, working to acquit the then Governor elect in Borno state: now the Vice President, Kashim Shettima of wrong doing, in a post election litigation, I have always called him a SAN.And having worked with him as members of the Borno State Executive Council, I always referred to him as the doyen of cabinet.His exceptional dedication, unwavering passion, and unrelenting pursuit of academic excellence, work, and justice may have earned him this outstanding elevation into the elite class of the bar.

Reading through his rather intimidating CV, from my corner of the hall, where a civic reception was held for him, I have come to additionally know, that, his remarkable journey started since his school days, when he displayed brilliance and candour among his peers.
At the civic reception organized in his honor, anyone privileged to attend could attest to the young Silk’s acceptance and connections.
I could not hide my feelings and passed yet another message to him at the occasion, but that is a topic for another day.
But, that the Chief Judge of Borno State, Justice Kashim Zanna, who rarely play such roles accepted to be the chairman of the occasion, and for Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, to abandon state functions, just to be there, speak volumes about the personality and relevance of Kaka Shehu Lawan.
And counting from my corner, I could see that it was a roll call of who is who in the political arena in Borno. It was also a galaxy of the high echelon of the legal profession, led by no other than the Attorney General and Minister of Justice.
It was a parade of distinguished senators of the Federal Republic, a line up of members of the House of Representatives and Houses of Assembly and indeed the business community.
Those who spoke on the occasion attested to the fact that Kaka Shehu, even as a young lawyer, is an inspiration to many older ones, including members of the bench.
Of course, his commitment to upholding the law, advocating for justice, and serving his state and Nigeria truly remain a watershed in the anals of history.
I admire his courage, even at the point when we had disagreements with the state, and he was about to send me to jail for no fault of his. Given his unwavering integrity, exceptional advocacy skills,
compassionate approach to legal and political matters, his innovative approach to legal solutions, and, of course, his leadership and mentorship qualities, no man could help but admire him.
The many tasks he has been entrusted to handle, further make his qualities in-concealable, and certainly, this recognition serves as a testament to the positive impact he has made in the lives of people, his colleagues, and the legal community.
I join a million others in celebrating his accomplishments even as I look forward to his continued success.
Kaka Shehu Lawan is indeed an inspiration to aspiring lawyers and a shining example of excellence in the legal profession.
Congratulations to him and the people of Borno state.

Senator Mustapha mourns wife of ex-CDS, Dupe Ibrahim

The lawmaker representing Kwara Central in the National Assembly and Turaki of Ilorin Emirate, Senator Saliu Mustapha, has expressed grief over the demise of Hajia Dupe Ibrahim (nee Akanbi), the wife of the retired Chief of Defence Staff, Rear Admiral Ola Saad Ibrahim.

Hajia Dupe Ibrahim, a revered daughter of the Ilorin Emirate, passed away in Abuja and had since been laid to rest in accordance with Islamic injunctions.

In a condolence message personally signed by the Senator, he extended his heartfelt condolences to the Orio-Okoh family and all those affected by her demise. He said her departure would leave a significant void within both her family and the broader Ilorin community, where she was widely respected.

The Senator also conveyed his deepest sympathy to her husband, Rear Admiral Ola Saad Ibrahim (Rtd), Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu Gambari; the Chairman of the National League of Veteran Journalists in Kwara State, Alhaji Mohammed Tunde Akanbi; the deceased mother and the entire Ilorin Emirate.

He noted that Hajia Dupe was a cherished and dedicated daughter of the Emirate, known for her commitment to family, community and faith.

Describing the news as a profound shock, Senator Mustapha said Hajia Dupe’s legacy as one of the “star daughters” of the Ilorin Emirate would endure, noting her kindness, strength, and unwavering support for causes dear to her heart.

The Senator prayed to Almighty Allah to grant the deceased eternal rest, and comfort the bereaved family, especially her husband, children, aged mother, and siblings during this challenging time.

Akwa Ibom First Lady Patience Eno’s Burial Scheduled for November 29

The family of the late Akwa Ibom State First Lady, Pastor Patience Umo Eno, has formally announced her funeral arrangements, with the burial scheduled for November 29, 2024. The funeral will be held at her hometown in Ikot Ekpene Udo, Nsit Ubium Local Government Area. Governor Umo Eno, along with the bereaved family and state government, finalized the arrangements to commemorate her life and legacy.

Enobong Uwah, Secretary to the State Government and Chairman of the Central Planning Committee, expressed the family’s gratitude for the outpouring of support received nationwide. He also encouraged friends and supporters to join in honoring Pastor Eno’s life through the planned events.

In memory of Pastor Eno’s faith and service, a series of events will begin on November 20 with the opening of the Mourning House. Condolence visits will continue until November 26, followed by a Night of Worship and Tributes on November 22 at the International Christian Worship Centre in Uyo. Dr. Frank Ekpenyong, Senior Special Assistant on ICT, remarked, “Her Excellency was a beacon of hope, and this night of worship honors the light she brought to countless lives.”

Nigerias Army Chief Dies At 56.

The Presidency has announced the Passing of Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja.

Presidential spokesman, Bayo Onanuga stated in a press release that Lt. General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja, Chief of the Army Staff, died at the age 56.

Onanuga stated that Lagbaja passed away on Tuesday night in Lagos after a period of illness.

Born on February 28, 1968, Lt. General Lagbaja was appointed Chief of Army Staff on June 19, 2023, by President Tinubu.

His military career began when he enrolled in the Nigerian Defence Academy in 1987, and commissioning on September 19, 1992, as a Second Lieutenant in the Nigerian Infantry Corps.
Lagbaja was a member of the 39th Regular Course of the Nigerian Defence Academy, NDA.

The presudency described the late Army Chief, as having demonstrated exceptional leadership qualities and committed having served as a platoon commander in the 93 Battalion and the 72 Special Forces Battalion.

“He played pivotal roles in numerous internal security operations, including Operation ZAKI in Benue State, Lafiya Dole in Borno, Udoka in Southeast Nigeria, and Operation Forest Sanity across Kaduna and Niger States”, Onanuga said.

Lagbaja was an alumnus of the prestigious U.S. Army War College, he earned a Master’s degree in Strategic Studies, demonstrating his dedication to professional growth and excellence in military leadership.

Lt. General Lagbaja is survived by his beloved wife, Mariya, and their two children.

“President Tinubu expresses his heartfelt condolences to the family and the Nigerian Armed Forces during this difficult time. He wishes Lt. General Lagbaja eternal peace and honours his significant contributions to the nation”.
