It was obvious to every curious observer, that, recent media syndication being brokered by one Kabiru Mohammed was an agenda setting script targeted at setting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on a particular course of action against former Chief of Army Staff. General Tukur Buratai.
As the President ups his antenna and sieves through the credentials of prospective appointees into his Government, with permutations pointing to the odds in favour of the retired war General: those hoping to be amongst the appointees are becoming even increasingly uncomfortable.
To the ordinary onlooker, it may look like another heroic adventure by Sahara Reporters in digging up a dirty past about the former Army Chief, or it could be yet another scandalous expose in journalistic circles of the ugly secrets of an wrongly acclaimed leader.
Others may see it as an embarrassing episode from Buratai’s secrets.
But those who may have served as hatchet men or cannon fodders in a media war before, could clearly see through the plot targeted at stirring up controversies about a perceived opponent who gets too close to success in an issue of competitive balance.
Former Chief of Army Staff. Lt. General Tukur Yusuf Buratai, has no doubt gotten close to being considered for yet another National assignment, going by recent permutations in the Tinubu Presidency, and logically, that makes some people: who have their eyes on the same target uncomfortable.
This antic, which seeks to test permutations in the face of an intended course of action, normally sets friends, compatriots and colleagues against each other.
That accusing gingers are today pointing in the directions of Buratai’s former colleagues in the Armed Forces, one may not easily fault the allegations, since the body languages of the duo if Sadique Abubakar and Monguno, may have betrayed certain degrees of complicity.
Followers of events trace the seeming frayed relationship between them and the erstwhile Chief of Army Staff, to their days in the immediate past Government, in which Buratai was perceived to have been more influential than the duo.
Similar attempts a embarrassing General Buratai in the media, was said to have come from the same quarters, and Buratai had to fight it out in the courts to clear his name and prove the allegations wrong.
Those who know Tukur Buratai would tell you that the General; turn diplomat does not fancy being dragged into needless media war, even as a norm in the scrambles over political positions.
Watching from the sidelines therefore one could see through Kabiru Mohammed, cum Sahara Reporters’ hypothesis, which are ostensibly an arrow from some others.
Buratai’s swift counter narrative, even as a non controversial figure may have temporarily slowed down the moves, but certainly not stopping them.
The days ahead could see him fighting more dirty wars, if he eventually gets back into Government, it may abette if they succeed in swaying the mind of the new President.
The days ahead may be very interesting.
