Nathan Ake exudes confidence in Manchester City’s ability to edge past Arsenal in the tightly contested Premier League title race.
City narrowed the gap on leaders Arsenal to just one point following a 2-0 victory against Nottingham Forest, courtesy of goals from Josko Gvardiol and Erling Haaland on Sunday.
However, Arsenal could extend their lead to four points if they defeat Bournemouth on Saturday, prior to City’s clash with Wolves later that day.
Despite the perceived mental strain of chasing from behind in a title race, Ake, a defender for City, believes his team holds the advantage.
While Arsenal currently hold the top spot, Pep Guardiola’s squad understands that winning their remaining five matches would secure an unprecedented fourth consecutive title.
“For me, it doesn’t matter really,” Ake remarked. “It’s in our hands, so we’re not depending on what they do.”
Ake highlighted the shift from last season, where City’s fate relied on their rivals’ performance. “This season it’s in our hands,” he emphasized. “The only thing we have to do is focus on the next one.”
Despite the proximity of the title, Ake stressed the importance of maintaining focus and winning the remaining matches. “It’s so close but it’s also so far away,” he noted. “It’s about what we do now.”
Meanwhile, Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya emphasized the team’s need to concentrate on their own tasks and disregard City’s fixtures.
After securing a vital 3-2 victory over Tottenham in the north London derby, Raya dismissed speculations of seeking favors from rivals.
“We cannot focus on other teams because you lose your focus on yourself,” Raya asserted. “I like challenges, and I don’t feel under pressure. It’s an opportunity to show what you are capable of.”
Raya highlighted the significance of the derby win, underscoring the team’s hunger to clinch Arsenal’s first title in two decades. “You have to win away games to be able to push for the title,” Raya emphasized, signaling the team’s determination.
