An unidentified individual met a tragic end due to electrocution near the Faculty of Education, adjacent to the Department of Economics, at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, in Anambra State.

Reports suggest that the man, believed to be attempting theft, was cutting a cable from a high-tension pole when he was electrocuted upon the sudden restoration of power by the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC). The incident transpired late Monday, with the deceased’s body discovered, still hanging from the pole, on Wednesday morning.

EEDC employees, alongside police and university safety officials, worked together to retrieve the body on Tuesday morning. A university insider, who requested anonymity, shared details of the discovery and the circumstances surrounding it.

This incident comes on the heels of a similar occurrence last week in Amawbia, near Awka, where another individual met a similar fate while allegedly trying to vandalize an electricity cable.

While the state’s police spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga, hadn’t yet confirmed the incident, Emeka Ezeh, Head of Corporate Communications for the EEDC, expressed concern over the increasing number of attacks on electrical infrastructure across the South-East.
