Apprehension in Plateau as leaders yet to confirm status

With some Nigerian governors admitting to testing positive to the global menace of the Corona virus disease popularity known as COVID 19, residents of Plateau state are apprehensive over the fate of its leaders, including governor Simon Lalong.

Though competent government sources have assured that the governor is not in any form of self-isolation, the growing suspicion stems from the governor’s alleged “disappearance from public glare” in recent days.

The government is yet to confirm to the people, if their leaders have undergone the tests especially that some notable chieftains of the All Progressives Congress, APC, including the Chief of Staff to the president Alhaji Abba Kyari are undergoing treatment; after testing positive to the disease.

At least, Governors Nasiru El-rufai and Bala Mohammed of Kaduna and Bauchi states respectively have isolated themselves as a result of being tested positive.

However, Governor Godwin Obaseki, Edo and Kayode fayemi of Ekiti states, have self-isolated themselves to monitor their health situations, the fear that more top government officials and politicians may be harbouring the disease based on it’s mode of transmission and the high profile individuals they might have contact with in recent past.

Meanwhile, as from today, the Plateau state government has confirmed that the state has not recorded any case of the disease in the State.

Addressing newsmen in Jos at the weekend, the Secretary of the state government, SSG, Danladi Atu said the “government takes exception to the non-challance and flagrant disregard” of its earlier directives by some individuals and groups who have remained recalcitrant.

Atu, who doubles as the

Secretary of the implementation committee said the additional measures will include all Tricycles would no longer take more than one passenger as against the official three, while Saloon cars will only take 4

passengers including the driver.

And to ensure the effectiveness of these measures, he added that the security agencies have been mandated to ensure full compliance and to deal with any individual or group that would go against the rules.

“We want to appeal to members of the public to continue to cooperate with the

Government as we work together to ensure that we protect the lives of our

people”, he stressed
