Army operations have helped to return farming activities in Kebbi – Gov. Bagudu
Gov. Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi says the anti-banditry operations of the Nigerian Army have increasingly enabled farmers in the state access to their farms without threats.
The Director, Army Public Relations, Brig.-Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, in a statement, said the governor made the observation when he received the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lt.-Gen. Faruk Yahaya in Birnin-Kebbi on Tuesday.
Bagudu said the farmers in Danko Wassagu in the southern part of the state had returned to their farming occupation, urging army to sustain the operations and bring about lasting peace in the state and Nigeria.
He commended the Nigerian Army for providing aid to civil authority at a critical period when non-state actors who were engendering insecurity in the society were being shielded by unpatriotic citizens.
Bagudu urged the army to continue to synergise with other security agencies and stakeholders to rid the north-western part of the country of banditry.
He pledged the state government’s commitment to collaborating with the Nigerian Army and other security agencies to tackle insecurity in the state.
The governor introduced some reconfigured operational vehicles constructed by the state government to the COAS.
He said the operational vehicles were reconfigured with the supervision of the Deputy Governor, retired Col. Samaila Dabai, to provide operational platforms for troops.
He assured the COAS that the vehicles would soon be handed over to the troops for deployment.
The COAS commended the state government and people of Kebbi for their support to Nigerian Army.
Yahaya added that renewed measures would be taken to address the security challenges affecting the state while calling on the government to sensitise the public to the danger of colluding with bandits to create panic within their communities.
He also noted that all hands must be on deck to resolutely deal with the prevailing security situation.
At the palace of the Emir of Gwandu, Alhaji Muhammadu Bashar, the COAS appealed to traditional leaders to guide the conduct of members of their communities against providing tacit support to bandits.
He added cooperating with troops would add value to the relentless effort of security operatives to restore law and order in the north west geopolitical zone of the country.
Responding, the emir commended the COAS for embarking on an operational tour of formations and units to give direction and guidance on how to overcome security challenges confronting the country.
Duringoperational visit to 1 Battalion in Birnin Kebbi, the COAS urged the troops to remain focused and professional in the conduct of every operation.
He assured them of adequate provision of more and modern equipment to enable them to carry out their mandate effectively.
Three suspected kidnappers have been killed by a mob in Emu Orakwan community, Esan South-East Local Government Area of Edo State.
Sources said that the incident occurred at about 5 p.m. on Oct. 6, when hunters and farmers in the area sighted the suspects at Akabueze camp.
The suspects were said to be among those who allegedly murdered a woman identified as Mrs. Ogbona on Oct. 1.
It was gathered that upon receiving the information, villagers and farmers mobilised and descended on the suspects, inflicting severe injuries on them before the arrival of security operatives.
Army troops accompanied by police personnel, moved swiftly to the scene and met the suspects at the point of death.
They were immediately taken to the General Hospital, where they were confirmed dead.
Their remains have been deposited at Imiuwuguina Mortuary, while investigation into the incident is ongoing.

The Member representing Ekiti/Isin/Irepodun/Oke-Ero Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, Hon. Raheem Tunji Olawuyi Ajuloopin, has strongly condemned the recent attack in Idofin Odo-Ashe, Oke-Ero Local Government Area of Kwara State, describing it as a cowardly act that seeks to disrupt the peace and stability of the community.
Hon. Ajuloopin, in a statement personally signed by him, expressed deep concern over the unfortunate incident and sympathised with the victims, their families, and the entire community affected by the dastardly attack, emphasising that acts of violence have no place in a civilised society, and therefore urged security agencies to intensify efforts in bringing the perpetrators to justice.
While commending the swift response of both the federal and Kwara State governments, as well as the security agencies and local vigilante groups, the lawmaker reiterated that the fight against insecurity requires collective responsibility, calling on traditional rulers, community leaders, and residents to remain vigilant and cooperate fully with security operatives by providing timely and credible information.
“Security is everyone’s business. We cannot afford to leave the safety of our communities solely to government agencies. Every citizen must be actively involved in safeguarding our environment and ensuring that peace prevails,” Hon. Ajuloopin admonished.
He reaffirmed his commitment to continued collaboration with relevant authorities to ensure that lasting peace in all parts of Kwara South and beyond.
Hon. Ajuloopin also appealed for calm, assuring that both the federal and state governments are working tirelessly to address the root causes of insecurity and prevent future occurrences.

The Gombe State Police Command has arrested a suspected cross-border kidnapper and recovered two AK-47 rifles, 80 rounds of live ammunition, and other items in a major operation targeting kidnapping and violent crimes in the state.
Police spokesperson DSP Buhari Abdullahi said the suspect, identified as Adamu Adamu, aged 30, from Song Local Government Area of Adamawa State but residing in Jauro Jatau Quarters, Akko LGA, was arrested on October 4, 2025, following credible intelligence linking him to a kidnapping network operating between Nigeria and Cameroon.
According to the statement, the operation was carried out by Operation Hattara led by CSP Ali Madaki under the directive of the Commissioner of Police, CP Bello Yahaya, During interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed to taking part in several kidnapping operations.
He was said to have led police operatives to a mountainous area near Wuro Biriji Village in Song LGA, Adamawa State, where two AK-47 rifles with serial numbers 05316 and 3553, 80 rounds of live ammunition, seven magazines, chains, padlocks, a knife, and four small bags were recovered.
The police said the suspect is in custody while efforts are underway to arrest other members of the syndicate and dismantle their network.
Commissioner of Police, Bello Yahaya, commended the operatives for their professionalism and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to sustaining the fight against kidnapping and other violent crimes.
He urged residents to continue providing credible information to security agencies to enhance peace and safety in the state.
