A recent clash between the Nigerian Army and bandits in Kaduna State resulted in the death of at least three bandits.

According to a statement released on Tuesday by Musa Yahaya, the Acting Deputy Director of the Army Public Relations Officer for the One Mechanized Division of the Nigerian Army, ‘Operation Whirl Punch’ engaged bandits during a raid on their hideout in the Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State. The operation led to the elimination of three bandits.

The troops also successfully recovered various arms and items during the operation, including AK-47 rifles, two locally crafted AK-47 rifles, seven AK-47 magazines, and eight motorcycles. The recovered items also included three locally made magazines, six mobile phones, drugs, and charms.

The statement affirmed, “During the well-planned and adequately executed operation, troops neutralized three bandits.”

Musa Yahaya further added that Major General BA. Alabi, the General Officer Commanding of the One Mechanized Division, praised the troops for their courage and urged them to sustain their momentum and assertiveness until all criminal elements were completely eradicated.

59 Terrorists Neutralized, Kidnap Victims Rescued in Recent Troop Operations

Two weeks ago, the Defence Headquarters revealed that Nigerian Army troops had successfully neutralized 59 terrorists in various operations. These operations also resulted in the rescue of 88 kidnapped victims held captive by criminals from different parts of the country.

Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, confirmed this information in Abuja, stating that a total of 88 suspected criminals, 10 kidnappers, 20 gunmen, and 19 suspected oil thieves were arrested during the operations. However, the exact time span of these operations was not specified.

Buba revealed, “As of July 28, 2023, the military has neutralized 59 terrorists and arrested a total number of 88 criminals, 10 kidnappers, 20 gunmen, and 19 suspected oil thieves. Troops have also rescued 88 kidnapped hostages.”

Furthermore, the troops successfully recovered 68 weapons and 1,364 rounds of ammunition. The recovered weapons included 26 AK47 rifles, one GPMG, one AKMS rifle, one FN rifle, four pump-action rifles, five pistols, and 19 Dane guns.

Additionally, the statement outlined the recovery of stolen and illegally refined oil, as well as a significant amount of money denied to oil thieves.
