Arsenal’s hopes of signing Italian-Nigerian right-back Michael Kayode have been dealt a blow, with reports suggesting that Kayode has agreed to a new contract with Serie A club Fiorentina.

There were earlier rumors that Arsenal had been scouting the talented young right-back with the intention of making a move for him in the January transfer window. However, Fiorentina seems determined to keep hold of Kayode and has secured his commitment with a new contract.

Transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano revealed that Kayode’s new deal with Fiorentina will be valid until the end of the 2027-2028 season. Fiorentina is expected to officially announce this agreement in the coming days.

Kayode’s stock has risen following his impressive performances for Italy at the 2023 European U19 Championship, where he scored the winning goal in the final against Portugal and showcased his versatility by playing in multiple positions. The 19-year-old has made seven appearances for Fiorentina’s first team this season and earned his first call-up to Italy’s U21 national team in September.

Kayode joined Fiorentina in the summer of 2021 after spending time with the youth teams of Juventus and Gozzano. Arsenal’s pursuit of the promising talent now seems to be on hold with his new contract commitment to Fiorentina.
