Assault On Gov Almakura: Suit Against LG Boss Adjourned

The Chief Judge of Nasarawa State,Justice Umaru Suleiman has adjourned hearing of the suit filed against Chairmanof Awe Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, Alhaji Yusuf Aliyu Turaki.Turaki was alleged to have masterminded an attack on theconvoy of the state Governor, Umaru Tanko Almakura, following which he wasarrested an arraigned before a state High Court. justice UmaruSulaiman Dikko said the adjournment is to allow the prosesutor to provide hiswitnesses on the next sitting. , Alhaji Yusuf Turaki who had earlier pleaded not guilty tothe charges waqs arraigned along with 11, who were alleged to be part of a mob that allegedly attacked ,Governor Al-Makura in Awe, where he had gone to inspect projects.

In a swift reaction to the adjournment, counsel to the first and second accusedpersons Chukwuma Ezenyi told the court that they would not tolerate furtheradjournment of the case, as the case suffered too many adjournments, which havebeen distracting his clients.

Though Counsel to the Governor who isacting on behalf of the state Director public prosecution said the delayfollowed the advice they were waiting for from the DPP, the presideng  judge Justice Dikko  called on the prosecution to bring thewitnesses in the next adjourned date and adjourned the case to 12, 13 and 14 ofApril, 2016 respectively.

It could be recalled that some youths inAwe where the council chairman holds sway had  rained Stones on  Governor UmaruAl-Makura when he visited the area .

Investigations by Nigerian Concord Newspaper reveal that the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers Council, Mr. Pius Akutah, has allegedly misappropriated public funds for a lavish lifestyle.

According to our findings, within months of assuming office, Akutah allegedly purchased a bulletproof SUV valued at approximately N850 million. In addition, he is reported to have acquired over twenty exotic SUVs for use as a convoy.

Akutah is also said to have acquired multiple high-value properties, including three in Abuja’s Maitama and Asokoro districts worth over N2 billion, and two in Lagos’ Banana Island valued at N1.8 billion. These acquisitions appear far beyond the scope of his official salary and allowances.

Further investigation suggests that Akutah may be using public funds to support political ambitions, including allegedly grooming militants across 23 local government areas in Benue State for a potential 2027 gubernatorial bid.

Staff of the Shippers Council reportedly claim that Akutah frequently accesses the council’s treasury without proper authorization. Some insiders have indicated that a petition will soon be filed with the EFCC, ICPC, and the Presidency to report his alleged misconduct.
