Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, the 2023 Peoples Democratic Party presidential candidate, has reignited the debate surrounding President Bola Tinubu’s educational background.
Atiku is urging a U.S. court to request Chicago State University to address discrepancies in the degrees awarded to President Tinubu. He emphasized the need for clarity on Tinubu’s educational trajectory, given his tenure as Lagos State’s former governor.
On Sunday, via his X account @atiku, he shared, “I found myself puzzled this morning about our current situation. In 1999, @officialABAT (Bola Ahmed Tinubu) mentioned attending St John’s Primary School in Lagos and then Children Home School in Ibadan. He subsequently mentioned Government College Ibadan, and later, Richard Daley College and Chicago State University in the U.S. Intriguingly, in 2023, he only acknowledged Chicago State University. I’m baffled. How can someone claim a university degree without primary or secondary education? Nigerians should question Tinubu’s remarkable claim.”
He included a humorous emoji with his post.
Both Atiku and Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, contest the validation of Tinubu’s victory in the February 25 election by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
In response, the All Progressives Congress’s Publicity Director, Bala Ibrahim, criticized Atiku, describing him as a sore loser. He commented that Atiku, despite his political journey in Nigeria, may be ill-advised, considering he himself has been accused by rivals in the past. Bala emphasized that Atiku’s current actions might tarnish his legacy, painting him as a poor sport.
