Tragedy struck Yar Nasarawa village in Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina State as bandits launched a deadly assault, leaving six people dead and ten others injured. The attack occurred while residents were settling down for the night, with bandits reportedly setting ablaze three houses and four motorcycles, as well as abducting an unknown number of villagers.
According to sources, the bandits carried out simultaneous attacks, spreading terror in the community. Additionally, Ruwangodiya village in the same local government area was targeted the previous night, resulting in the rustling of an unspecified number of domestic animals.
Speaking anonymously, a resident lamented the losses suffered by the affected villages, stating, “The hoodlums also attacked Ruwan Godiya village in the same local government area and carried out their activities where residents are now counting their losses.”
The State Police Command’s spokesperson, ASP Abubakar Aliyu, confirmed the incident, revealing that security operatives have been deployed to the area to restore calm. In a statement, Aliyu disclosed that the attack occurred around 11:30 pm on February 19, 2024, with suspected bandits wielding AK-47 rifles responsible for the violence.
He further added, “The CP has since deployed the command’s tactical, operational, and intelligence to the scene, combing the surrounding bushes for the possible arrest of the perpetrators for diligent prosecution.”
This latest attack comes just weeks after bandits killed two residents and abducted 29 others in Dan Alhaji and Yandaka villages in the Batsari Local Government Area of the state, highlighting the persistent threat posed by banditry in the region.
