By Sule Aliyu, Bauchi
The Abubakar Tatari Ali Polytechnic (ATAP) Bauchi has said that it has renewed its commitment towards providing qualitative education to students of the institution.
The Rector of the Polytechnic, Dr. Suleiman Muhammad Lame gave the assurance in Bauchi during a press briefing on the activities of the polytechnic during the past two years of his stewardship.
Lame, who disclosed that over 95 percent of the 53 courses being run by the institution were duly accredited, said the three National Supervisory Agencies that visited the Polytechnic on many occasions, have expressed satisfaction with the level of development in the institution.
He said that ATAP is the only polytechnic in the Northern part of the country that has 19 NCE courses duly accredited, while HND courses on Geo- Technology, Statistics, Mass Communication and Architecture will commence before the end of this month.
Dr. Suleiman Lame commended the present administration in the state for its continued support to the institution, disclosing that over 100 qualified relevant staff was transferred from their various ministries and agencies by the state government to the polytechnic towards promoting and enhancing its services.
“The most awaited tourism village which has a model guest house and standard restaurant has been completed for the commencement of Leisure and Tourism course in the institution and a new digital campus radio has also been completed with state of the art equipment”, Lame revealed.
On staff development, the rector disclosed that over 50 staff who holds master’s degree has acquired their PhD while more staff has been encouraged to further their education.
According to him, over 25,000 text books of different fields were purchased while the Polytechnic’s Library has been equipped with latest text books as part of requirements by the National Board for Technical Education and other supervisory agencies.
He recalled that the polytechnic established in 1988, had dilapidated structures with only one course accredited when he assumed duty two years ago, stressing that immediately after he took over, Governor Muhammad Abdullahi Abubakar showed his concern on the development of the institution with the renovation of all students’ hostel and classes as well as the provision of furniture for both staff and students.
Dr. Suleiman Lame therefore called on students to reciprocate the gesture by being dedicated and committed to their studies.
