Benue Assembly Concludes Screening Of 17 Commissioner Nominees Sent By Governor Alia

Speaker Benue State House of Assembly Mr Aondona Dajo has commended governor Hyacinth Alia for selecting technocrats with vast experience and people of integrity to serve the state as commissioner’s.
Mr Dajo who gave the commendation last over the weekend while screening the last batch of eight bringing the number to 17 commissioner nominees during the house emergency plenary held at its temporal chambers at the new banquet hall of government house Makurdi, equally charged the nominees to leave up to expectations of their assignment.
Those screened during the concluding part of the exercise were Michael Oglegba-Otukpo, Alumo Orpin-Tarka, Martin’s Shaager-Ushongo, Prof Moses Ogbaji-Oju, Kwaghgba Amande- Katsina-ala, Mathew Aboh-Ukum, Tiza Imojime-Buruku, Ogu Odo- Ogbadibo and Omale Omale-Apa LGAs respectively.
Interacting with members of the Assemly during the screening some commissioner nominees including Michael Oglegba from Otukpo LGA stressed the need for Government to prioritize agriculture for the growth of the economy, block leakages to improve internally generated revenue and emphasized the need for effective supervision of primary schools.
He also advocated regular payment of salaries to all category of workers as well as other entitlements to be paid particularly to teachers in order to boost their moral towards improving basic education in the state.
Another commissioner nominee Barr Shaager lamented the effect of garnished orders on performance of government and advised that state legal matters should be handled by competent lawyers to avoid garnishing of government accounts.
While on his part another commissioner nominee for Ukum Local Government Area Mathew Abo observed that the existence of multiple private schools in the state was as a result of deplorable public primary schools and called on government to look into the issue as well as improve sporting activities in schools.
