BREAKING NEWS: Reverend King To Die By Hanging, As Supreme Court Dismisses His Appeal
For followers and those who believe Chukwuemeka Ezeugo, general overseer of the Christian Praying Assembly, who is commonly known as Reverend King, their hope of seeing him off the hanger’s nose has been dashed, as the supreme court has finally dismissed the appeal filed by him, seeking to quash the death past on him earlier.
Revered King was sentenced to death through hanging by a Lagos high court following his conviction on a six-count charge of attempted murder and murder in 2006.
He had however insisted that he not guilty of the allegation but on January 11, 2007, he was handed a death sentenced by the then Justice Joseph Oyewole of the Lagos state high court, Ikeja, for the murder of one of his church members, Ann Uzoh.
He was specifically accused by the Lagos State Government of pouring petrol on the deceased, and five other persons, but Uzoh died exactly 11 days after the incident, on August 2, 2006.
Ezeugo, or Revered King, was handed a 20-year imprisonment for the attempted murder, and death by hanging for the offence of murder.
He then proceeded to the Appeal Court, Lagos division to challenge the verdict, which was however, thrown out.
Following this, the convict then filed yet another appeal at Supreme Court, which was heard by the apex court, presided over by Justice Walter Onoghen, in December 2015, and adjourned for judgment.
In a lead judgment today(Friday), Justice Sylvester Ngwuta, said the facts of the case were “like what you see in a horror movie”.
He then dismissed the appeal, saying it lacked merit in its totality, thereby, upholding the judgment of the lower court which had sentenced him to death by hanging, but set aside the 20-year imprisonment for attempted murder.
Investigations by Nigerian Concord Newspaper reveal that the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers Council, Mr. Pius Akutah, has allegedly misappropriated public funds for a lavish lifestyle.
According to our findings, within months of assuming office, Akutah allegedly purchased a bulletproof SUV valued at approximately N850 million. In addition, he is reported to have acquired over twenty exotic SUVs for use as a convoy.
Akutah is also said to have acquired multiple high-value properties, including three in Abuja’s Maitama and Asokoro districts worth over N2 billion, and two in Lagos’ Banana Island valued at N1.8 billion. These acquisitions appear far beyond the scope of his official salary and allowances.
Further investigation suggests that Akutah may be using public funds to support political ambitions, including allegedly grooming militants across 23 local government areas in Benue State for a potential 2027 gubernatorial bid.
Staff of the Shippers Council reportedly claim that Akutah frequently accesses the council’s treasury without proper authorization. Some insiders have indicated that a petition will soon be filed with the EFCC, ICPC, and the Presidency to report his alleged misconduct.
