Customs Officer Fatally Attacked by Truck Passengers in Katsina

Tragedy struck along the Katsina-Dankama road in Kaita Local Government Area as a customs officer fell victim to a deadly assault reportedly carried out by passengers of a truck.

Reports from Daily Trust suggest that the customs officers attempted to halt the truck, which was transporting individuals to Dankama town, but the driver ignored their orders.

In the ensuing altercation, one of the customs officers allegedly discharged his firearm, accidentally striking a passenger in the waist. This prompted the truck to finally come to a stop, leading the passengers to confront the customs officials, resulting in a fatal assault on the shooter.

Regrettably, the customs officer succumbed to the attack, though his identity and rank remain undisclosed at this time. Additionally, a passenger named Bashir Na-Buzuwa, a 27-year-old resident of Zanguna in Katsina city and native of Doro town in Bindawa LGA, lost his life due to the gunshot wound.

Confirming the incident, Customs Public Relations Officer SC Tahir Balarabe stated that an official statement regarding the event would be forthcoming. Efforts are underway to recover the remains of the deceased officer.
