Tensions flared at a recent meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the North-Central zone when Dino Melaye, the PDP gubernatorial candidate in the 2023 Kogi State election, engaged in a heated exchange with former Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom.
Melaye reportedly voiced his astonishment at Ortom’s presence, given what he deemed as Ortom’s detrimental actions that contributed to the PDP’s losses in both presidential and gubernatorial elections in Benue State.
The former senator called for disciplinary action against Ortom, sparking a verbal altercation between the two politicians.
Meanwhile, the National Working Committee (NWC) of the PDP is set to present a report on members’ involvement in anti-party activities during the 2023 general elections to the National Executive Committee (NEC) on Thursday.
A senior NWC member, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed the submission of the report to the NEC, emphasizing that it is not meant as punitive but rather to facilitate the identification of individuals responsible for anti-party actions and recommend suitable sanctions.
The NEC meeting is expected to address not only the anti-party report but also the issue of whether the party’s acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, should retain his position or be replaced.
